16th annual MLK Day of Service hosted by Many Helping Hands 365.
"The event is a city-wide annual day of service, which supports dozens of Cambridge organizations that deliver critical services to our neighbors in need, provide an important social safety net, and make our city a better, healthier, and more just community. Last year, over 2,000 volunteers gathered, resulting in 457 bags of groceries that were donated to 15 area food pantries; 2,815 Valentine Cards were created and given through more than 20 organizations helping elders, veterans, the ill and homeless and hand delivered to hundreds of elders living alone; 624 handmade fleece blankets and scarves made for 27organizations sheltering and helping homeless children, teens and adults, recent immigrants; 1,020 pounds of clothing were collected and donated to 10 local organizations assisting people in need; and 120 bags of books were collected and delivered to 18 local literacy programs."
